Bloodborne Pathogen Safety and Prevention

December 08, 2007

Many practices don't think their non-clinical office staff should worry about OSHA's Bloodborne Pathogen Standard safeguards, and that assumption is pretty dangerous. And that assumption's pretty dangerous. The Hepatitis B virus, for example, can survive for at least a week in dried blood at room temperature -- which means that even medical records or charts have the potential to expose non-clinical staff members to this bloodborne disease. Get smart about bloodborne pathogen safety by signing up for this 1-hour session with OSHA expert, Patricia Trites, MPA, CHBC, CPC, EMS, CHCC, CHCO, CHP, CME(H). You'll find out how to comply with OSHA's Bloodborne Pathogen Standard and how to keep ALL your staff in the clear of dangerous infection.

All employees who could be “reasonably anticipated” to face contact with blood or other potentially infectious materials (OPIM) as the
result of performing their assigned job duties. That includes Physicians, Nurses, Medical Students, Healthcare Workers, Paramedics, Firemen, Policemen, Emergency Responders, Teachers, School Staff, Tatoo Artists, Cleaning/Janitorial Staff, etc.

I've used BloodbornePathogenTraining.com. They've got a really good OSHA Bloodborne Pathogen Course that is 1 hour long and provides a certificate at the end.
