Nighantu-Ratnakar (1867)
Arthmender contains the 12 most joint rejuvenating herbal concentrates available in Ayurvedic Science and backed by clinical studies. When formulated in the correct amounts and blended by our proprietary process, 269 natural phytonutrients exert 514 synergistic activities on your body to restore joint suppleness and flexibility by reducing inflammation and pain, eliminating toxins, curtailing free radical activity, counteracting autoimmunity, improving circulation, engendering cell production and repair, shrinking inflamed tissues, preventing excessive blood clotting, lubricating and smoothing joint structures, improving calcium absorption, and relaxing and toning muscles.
Arthmender reduces inflammation and pain by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis, suppressing cyclooxygenase-1, cyclooxygenase-2, 5-lipoxygenase, and cytokines, and neutralizing leukocyte elastase and free radicals. It helps eliminate toxins by increasing fluid secretion in the intestinal mucosa and forcing waste out of the body before toxins are absorbed through the intestinal wall. Free radical (tissue damaging) activity is curtailed by inhibiting lipid peroxidation and raising levels of Vitamin C and 2,2-diphenyl-1-picryl-hydrazyl (DPPH), nitric oxide and hydroxyl radicals. Arthmender promotes healing of joints by stimulating peripheral and collateral circulation, facilitating thyroid functions and supplying Tryptophan to increase metabolism and repair activity, inhibiting platelet aggregation, reducing synovial fluid leucocyte count and lowering elevated serum transaminase levels and erythrocyte sedimentation rates, and supplying Lysine to help maintain nitrogen balance in your body.
Simply take one Arthmender capsule two times per day to maintain and intensify these effects on your body over time.
Arthmender is a safe, proprietary selection of special herbs renowned for their joint rejuvenation properties. Concentrated Extracts of these herbs have been blended in a powerfully effective combination to increase assimilation and effective potency of each ingredient while eliminating unwanted side-effects. Gathered from throughout India, they include:
● Guggulu - Commiphora Mukul (Guggul)
Guggulu contains resin, volatile oils, and gum. Pharmacologically active components in the plant include guggulsterones (E- and Z-steroisomers), gugulipid, and triterpenes (myrrhanol A and myrrhanone A). These triterpenes exhibit potent anti-inflammatory effects. A 2003 clinical study showed significant improvement in osteoarthritis symptoms after patients took 500 mg of Guggulu 3 times per day with food for 1 month. Another study showed that Guggulu was as effective as ibuprofen in treating acute and chronic inflammation. Guggulsterones have been proven to stimulate thyroid functions, normalize hormonal levels, and increase the body's rate of metabolism to support cell production and repair and ensure joint suppleness and flexibility. They are also antagonist ligands for the bile acid receptor (BAR) farnesoid X receptor (FXR) which is activated by bile salts. This makes Guggulu an effective reducing agent for low density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol and triglycerides. The plant has been used in Ayurvedic medicine for centuries to treat arthritis and obesity.
● Eranda - Ricinus Communis (Castor)
Eranda contains phytosterols like brassicasterol, campesterol, β-Sitosterol, βamyrin, and lupeol. Its seeds contain oil which is rich in ricinine, ricin-A, B, C, D and E, and IX-, β- andyricin & ricinoleic, linoleic, palmitic, oleic and stearic acids. Ricinus has anti-helminthes and anti-bacterial properties which help in arthritis of infectious origin. Peptides from the seeds have been used in the preparation of immunomodulating drugs. Castor oil has been used since ancient times as a laxative, the active principle being ricinoleic acid. This hydroxylated, long-chain fatty acid has multiple effects on the intestinal mucosa, resulting in fluid secretion. This property makes significant curative effect on the arthritic patients since Ayurveda Science stipulates that toxins must be effectively removed from the body via the digestive tract to prevent disease and ensure good long-term health. Research has proven that the petroleum ether extract exhibited significant anti-inflammatory activity, while a water extract of the root bark showed analgesic activity. In clinical studies, the mehthanoic extract of Eranda root has inhibited the primary and secondary phases of adjuvant arthritis. The root extract exhibits significant free radical scavenging activity by inhibiting lipid peroxidation initiated by carbon tetrachloride and ferrous sulphate in liver and kidney homogenates. Eranda also enhances the free radical scavenging activity of stable radical 2,2-diphenyl-1-picryl-hydrazyl (DPPH), nitric oxide and hydroxyl radical. Over time, free radicals damage tissue to the extent that they are thought to cause cancer, arthritis, and heart disease. By effectively reducing free radicals in the body, Eranda helps treat and prevent arthritis.
● Nirgudi - Vitex Negundo (Chinese Chaste Tree)
Nirgudi contains alkaloids, reducing sugars, glycosides, flavonoids, sterols, resins, astringent organic acids, and tannins. The leaf extract of Nirgudi exhibits anti-inflammatory and analgesic (pain suppressing) properties through the inhibition of prostaglandin (PG) synthesis. Prostaglandins are a group of lipids which cause the inflammatory response to injury and production of vasodilation, fever, and pain. Since arthritis is a condition where the inflammatory response has gone out of control to cause chronic inflammation, tissue damage, and pain, Nirgudi helps stop the damage being done by inflammatory fluids by inhbiting PG synthesis and the production of inflammatory fluids.
● Ardaka - Zingiber Officinale (Ginger)
Gingerol is the active compound in Ardaka. In a potent 4:1 ratio extract form, concentrated levels of Gingerol stimulate peripheral circulation to the extremities resulting in a warming effect on the body and joints. Ayurvedic practitioners rely on Ardaka as a "carrier" herb that enables other herbs to react more effectively in the body. Scientists have now discovered other potential uses including relief from the pain and inflammation of rheumatoid arthritis. Ardraka has an inhibitory effect on prostaglandin biosynthesis through inhibition of cyclooxygenase-1 and cyclooxygenase-2 which are mediators in inflammation of small and big joints in arthritis. Dr. Krishna C. Srivastva from the Institute of Odense in Denmark has stated that arthritis patients reported "significant relief" from pain after taking less than a tablespoon of Ardaka every day for three months. The Medical Tribune (vol.30,18:16) reported one study of arthritis patients who took daily servings of Ardaka. All patients reported that "they were able to move around better and had less swelling and morning stiffness after consuming the spice". Ayurveda attributes stiffness, slowness, and pain that results from rheumatic conditions to the entrance of cold and dampness in the body, an observation concurrent with those who suffer from rheumatic symptoms that are intensified by inclement weather. The whole process of the joints losing their lubrication, function, and warmth is seen as a "cooling of the body", referred to as atrophy in the West. Ardaka is regarded as one of the classic remedies for these conditions and is used internally and externally. It is also an excellent ingredient in arthritic formulas to counter stomach problems resulting from the overuse of prescriptive drugs.
● Ashwagandha - Withania Somnifera (Ashwagandha)
Ashwagandha is easily the most potent herb in the entire botanical kingdom. It has the ability to promote physical and mental health, provide resistance against disease and diverse adverse environmental factors, revitalize the body in debilitated conditions, and increase longevity. Ashwagandha contains steroidal lactones (withanolides, withaferin) and heterogeneous alkaloids including anaferine, anahygrine, beta-sisterol, chlorogenic acid, cystenine, cuscohygrine, iron, tropine, pseudotropine, scopoletin, somniferiene, and tropanol. These compounds contribute to adaptogenic, immunomodulatory, and anti-inflammatory effects that impart a rejuvenating effect on the body and improve the range of movement of joints affected by arthritis. Ashwagandha provides restorative benefit to the nervous system, counteracts anxiety and high blood pressure, relaxes muscles, and promotes a calm state of mind to help diminish motor stiffness. Ashwagandha's adaptogenic and immunomodulatory activities address autoimmunity (production of antibodies which attack your own tissues) which is considered to cause some types of arthritis.
● Shallaki - Boswellia Serrata (Indian Frankincense)
Shallaki's anti-inflammatory action is applied in Ayurveda for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, gout, low back pain, myositis and fibrositis. The boswellic acids in Shallaki extract act as COX-2 inhibitors of 5-lipoxygenase and cytokines to reduce pain and inflammation. Leukocyte elastase and oxygen radicals are also neutralized to lessen inflammation, increase mobility, and ameliorate morning stiffness. Research indicates that Shallaki reduces the synovial fluid leucocyte count and lowers elevated serum transaminase levels, as well as erythrocyte sedimentation rates, to help lubricate and smooth the entire joint structure. Inflammatory conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis are characterized by a marked increase in the above mentioned parameters. Shallaki is effective in shrinking inflamed tissues, mediated through a vascular phenomenon. It improves blood supply to the joints and restores the integrity of blood vessels, by opening up collateral blood circulation. This decreases pain, increases flexion and mobility in osteoarthritis patients (particularly in cases of knee joint swelling).
● Pippali - Piper Longum (Long Pepper)
Pippali is a Rasayana plant, reputed in Ayurveda for promoting physical and mental health, improving defense mechanisms of the body, and enhancing longevity. The fruits are used as an anti-irritant and analgesic for muscular pains and inflammation. Pippali contains large number of alkaloids and related compounds, the most abundant of which is piperine, together with methyl piperine, pipernonaline, piperettine, asarinine, pellitorine, piperundecalidine, piperlongumine, and piperlonguminine. Piperine has been proved to enhance bio-availability by promoting rapid absorption, of structurally and therapeutically diverse phytonutrients, possibly by modulating membrane dynamics. The essential oil of the fruit is a complex mixture, the three major components of which are (excluding the volatile piperine) caryophyllene, pentadecane and bisaboline. It has protective effect on the liver, along with antibacterial and anti-amoebic activity. Pippali as a powerful 4:1 ratio extract stimulates thermogenic response or the release of metabolic heat energy in the body and has a marked anti-inflammatory activity which is helpful in treating arthritis.
● Yavani - Trachyspermum Ammi (Ajowan)
Yavani belongs to the cumin and parsley family and the part used is its seeds, which contains about 4 - 6% essential oil, of which 45 - 55% is the strongly antiseptic essential oil 'thymol'. The seed, and especially the essential oil in the seed, is strongly antiseptic, antispasmodic, aromatic, bitter, diaphoretic, digestive, diuretic, expectorant and tonic. The seeds of Yavani contain a glucoside called 6-O-β-glucopyranosyloxythymol, carvacrol, thymol, y-teripinene, paracymen, and α- and β-pinene, carvone, limonene, and dillapiole. Yavani has been traditionally used in Ayurveda to treat rheumatism. Its extract has a distinguished hypertensive and relaxant effects thereby reducing blood pressure and heart rate. Yavani also inhibits platelet aggregation thus helping to control the blood clotting cascade caused by chronic inflammation. This prevents Sepsis and Septic Shock that can be brought on by acute inflammation conditions like arthritis.
● Devadaru - Cedrus Deodara (Deodar Cedar)
Devadaru contains sesquiterpene hydrocarbons a-himachalene 6-7%, p-himachalene around 91% and other isomers including o-himachalene with p-methyl acetophenone, p-methyl 3-tetrahydroacetophenone, atlantone, and himachalo. It also contains sesquiterpene, flavanoids (deodarin, taxifolin, and quercetin), alkaloids, resins, calcium, and phosphorous. Devadaru increases peripheral blood circulation, tones the muscles, exhibits antispasmolytic activity (muscle relaxant) which ultimately helps in arthritis by improving joint moment and body mobility. It also serves as a laxative to improve the removal of toxins from the body and exhibits anti-inflammatory and analgesic activity to relieve pain and promote healing of arthritis effected joints.
● Shatavari - Asparagus Racemosus (Shatavari)
Shatavari is a rich source of glycosides, aglycones (Shatavarins, sarasapogenin, arasosapogenin, and diosgenin), Asparagamine, flavonoids, polpyphenol, Vitamin C, dietary fiber, niacin, phosphorus, protein, and iron. Research indicates that Shatavari extracts protect body tissues against a variety of biological, physical and chemical stressors, thus proving its strong adaptogenic effect. A methanolic extract of the roots shows significant antibacterial efficacy, which is helpful in arthritis types that have infectious origin. The strong immuno-modulatory effect of Shatavari is helpful in autoimmune arthritis. And its Vitamin C scavenges free radicals (believed to cause arthritis and aging) thereby increase the antioxidant defense in your body.
● Methi - Trigonella Foenum-Graecum (Fenugreek)
Methi seeds contain alkaloids and proteins that are high in lysine and tryptophan. Lysine is an essential amino acid needed for growth and to help maintain nitrogen balance in the body. It helps the body absorb and conserve calcium. Tryptophan is an essential amino acid (which means it cannot be synthesized and must be part of your diet). Tryptophan is precursor for serotonin (a neurotransmitter) which plays an important role in liver regeneration and helps induce cell division which is essential for healing. Methi's steroidal saponins (diosgenin, yamogenin, tigogenin, neotigogenin) and mucilaginous fiber help soothe and protect irritated internal tissues of the body. Methi is very effective in removing noxious gas (Vayu) from the body which is belived to be a cause of arthritis. According to Ayurveda, due to wrong diet and life style, intestines fill with undigested food particles which become glued to the intestine lining. These particles create several different layers in the intestine and act as chemicals that release gases with different noxious constituents. The gas takes shelter in the joints and creates pressure, immobilizing them and making movement painful and inflammation prevalent. Methi cleans the intestines and forces waste out of the body. This detoxifying effect helps alleviate arthritis.
● Hingu - Ferula Asa-Foetida (Asafetida)
Asafoetida is a yellow colored resinous gum of a tall perennial herb, with a pungent smell. It is typically 67.8 % carbohydrates, 16% moisture, 4% protein, 1.1% fat, 7% minerals and 4.1% fiber. Its mineral and vitamin contents include substantial calcium and phosphorus, iron, carotene, riboflavin and niacin. Asafoetida contains resin, gum, volatile oil and ash. The resin consists chiefly of asaresinotennol, free or combined with ferulic acid. Asafoetida addresses food stagnation in your gastrointestinal tract. It effectively breaks up impacted fecal matter and accumulations from excessive eating of heavy or sticky food. It kills worms, particularly round worms and thread worms. Asafoetida cleanses the intestinal flora while strengthening agni (biological fire governing metabolism). It also dispels intestinal gas, relieves cramping and pain. This feature of Asafoetida helps in to treat arthritis at the basic level of digestion since according to Ayurveda, arthritis starts from chronic indigestion and the circulating undigested wastes called Ama. Asafoetida is also a nervine stimulant and sedative which helps it to relax muscles that might be tense due to arthrtis pain.
These ingredients comprise a Proprietary Blend that goes to work directly on the entire musculoskeletal system with positive impact on inflammation, healing, and long-term joint health.
