Q: I would like to hear if the group can offer interventions that they have found useful for patients with Ehlers-Danlos Disease. The person I am dealing with now has Ehlers-Danlos Type 3.

A1: Have her tested for MRSA (methicillin resistant Staph Aureas). Lesion is often mistaken for a spider bite and can be chronic and recurrent with systemic symptoms especially if chronically but inadequately treated with antibiotics.

A2: Based on the information given my suggestion is to build her immune system and also detox her. You don't say what the bite looks like, what part of the country she lives in, or the degree of inflammation and what it looks like. The bite area may never have been adequately disinfected and she may need to be on some antibiotics also for a period of time. A good history needs to be taken of the patient before proceeding.

A4: Photoluminescence aka ultraviolet blood irradiation works well on several fronts. It cleanses the blood of viruses, bacteria, and fungi. I have personally had it done approximately 25 times over the past ten years. One year ago I contracted shingles on the right side of my head and in my right eye. Four treatments in ten days and all was gone.

Sincerely yours,

Dennis Stepanovich,DC

A5: Dear Doctor's

Spider bites of Brown Recluse, Black Widow and many other respond very quickly to UV Therapy. Stops the infections and breakdown of tissue. it would definitely help with the patient noted.

My best. Patti Wooldridge RN, BSN

A6: My old friend, Harry Philibert, M.D., practices in New Orleans. He told me recently that he had found the cure for brown recluse spider bites. He has patients take Microhydrin, the multi-level product by Royal Body Care. He described quite dramatic improvements, some being temporally distant from the bite. I had the occasion shortly after to use the treatment for one of my staff who had what we believe was a brown recluse bite. The therapy worked extremely well. A deep pustulus lesion in the hip area was back to almost normal within a few days.

Then there is a doctor in Texas, with whom I have spoken but can't recall his name at this time, who has developed a modified stun-gun type of device which one can use for spider bites. He claims that the electrical current denatures the protein and thus inactivates the negative effect of the venom. I believe that it has been helpful used even some time after the time of the bite.

One of the above may help. If you would like to try the modified zapper or stun gun, I could attempt to find the name or website for you.

A7: Hello Mr. Graham: This email side steps the EDS issues but rather addresses the spider bite as there may be a viral connection here. Try going to http://www.highway60.com where you can find similar stories of people who have been bitten by brown recluse spiders. I have heard that mega doses of zinc taken internally immediately after being bitten can prevent necrosis. Zinc kills certain viruses on contact. If you try this I would suggest zinc citrate in 50 mg size. The "Equate" brand by Walmart have a very small tablet size which reduces the large amount of excipients you'll begetting with larger tablets.
The tablets must always be taken with food and chewed to reduce them to powder to prevent stomach upset. The suggested dose is 1 gram per day. I have personally used up to 300 mg per day for a year to treat a copper overload situation with no ill effect. My Serum Zn went above the reference range but returned to normal shortly after discontinuing useage. I would recommend raising the doesage gradually to approach one gram/day, for three to four days and then discontinue. Stop if vomitting occurs, wait one day and resume up to a lower doseage. Some people also apply zinc oxide topically to the wound. A suitable diaper rash cream could be used here. They contain about 15-20% zinc oxide. Good luck.

A9: Lots of good suggestions for Brown Recluse and Blak Widow but I believe Blake (Honours) is in Australia? If it's NSW we would have to consider "Funnel Web" etc.

A11: I wonder whether prolotherapy or prolozone would help with Ehlers-Danlos. I've had no personal experience with this disease, but prolotherpay can tighten and strengthen ligaments effectively so it may be worth a try,
