Dr. George Eby protocol??

Q: Has any one tried the use of high dose Zinc in the treatment of angina/arteriosclerosis as per the work of Dr. George Eby? If so, what was the protocol and outcome?
Thanks.

A1: I have personally used 200mg of zinc citrate daily (sometimes as high as 300mg), for over 11 months to restore an extreme zn/cu ratio imbalance (copper overload) as detected in a hair tissue mineral analysis (HTMA). If your patient has a balanced HTMA Zn/Cu ratio of 8:1, it won't stay that way very long by mega dosing on zinc. He/she could start to go out of balance in as little as a week or two, depending of course on the amount of zn taken. Since there seems to be some evidence of bacterial (and viral) involvement in ateriosclerosis you should be aware that zinc supplementation will lower the amount of copper in the body producing a ratio imbalance and eventually an absolute cu imbalance (deficiency) as the excess zinc will also lower copper absorbtion. Copper is antibacterial and antifungal. If your patient has tendencies towards fungal infections like Candida, they could experience a surge in Candida type symptoms once that Zn/Cu ratio goes too far out of balance, assuming they are predisposed to this kind of infection. I personally experienced this but only after passing beyond the ideal ratio and driving my copper levels too low. It is not just the tissue load of copper either but the body is sensitive to low serum copper w.r.t. fungal control. Zinc is an antiviral so perhaps there is some connection between the presence of viruses and arterial sclerosis which might explain why Dr.Eby's therapy presumably works. A properly interpreted HTMA would, in my opinion, be recommended before this kind of therapy to have an idea of how balanced/imbalanced the patient is prior to potentially unbalancing them. One option would be to give them Zn and Cu in the correct ratios but not at the same time (say Zn at breakfast and Cu at lunch). I monitored my serum zinc during this therapy incidentally and I was slightly over the upper reference range during this period without any apparent ill effect. This returned to normal when I lowered my zn intake after my treatment. Cheers!

A2: one study is here-http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/16084666

the protocol is here-http://george-eby-research.com/html/angina.html

what it looks like is not so much dose but zn levels. his website is pretty straight forward, nice to see someone not trying to make a buck off his discoveries.
