My sister is concerned about a reoccuring sore that she gets outside of the vagina on the labial majora. The sore is about the diamtere of a dime and is itchy, red and inflamed and last for about 5 days. Eventually, the area drys up, scabs over, lightely, and goes aways only to reoccur sporadically 2 or 3 times a year. The sore always occurs in the same spot. She has no health insurance so has been negligent to see a doctor. What is this sore and how might she remedy it? Might there be an over the counter product she can use to heal the area when inflamed?
Thank You,
Christina

This is not necessarily Herpees. There are a number of things, other viruses or blocked ducts etc that could be causing this. I know it can be expensive to see the doctor but it is very important in this case.

Sounds like herpes (that's exactly what happens to a herpes sore) I have it and have done excessive research on it. There are many vitamins and such that claim to help (but none have been too helpful so far) but I can tell you what they are. . . .

Lysine
Oils to put on sores : lemon and geranium mixture and eucalyptus and bergamot mixture
True rose oil and melissa oil
A daily multi-vitamin
Avoid stress

Other signs of herpes are swollen lymph nodes (she'd notice a sore spot under the skin seen as a lump between her inner thigh and below hip on the right and under her arm on the right also) headaches, and sore muscles.

She doesn't need to see a doctor necessarily treatment is only for a person's convience to stop or lessen the outbreaks and lessen the spread. She only needs to avoid sexual contact (or be very very precatious) though because as she can see it is not a fun process to get herpes and I'm sure she wouldn't want to do that to someone else.

It does sound like herpes...but the diameter of a dime seems VERY large for a sore. There are clinics that are pretty inexpensive where she can at least get tested and find out exactly what is going on. If it is something more serious than Herpes...she really needs to find out ASAP - it could cause her health problems in the future if she doesnt.

Most people jump to conclusions and right away think HERPES. My daughter got this at age 15 and was not sexually active. It was diagnosed as Bechets. That is not necessarily what your sister's is, only that there are different possible diagnoses. She probably should see a doctor. If the herpes test is negative, she might want to see a rheumatologist.

its very cheap to see a doctor at planned parenthood. they do cheap STD testing, pregnancy testings, gynocological needs, etc. check it out. they base it all on your income, regardless of insurance.

People who are sexually active may have genital sores or ulcers that are caused due to sexually transmitted diseases like genital herpes, syphilis, and chancroid. The vaginal skin breaks out in boils and warts, and immediate medical attention should be given to such breakouts. The sores caused due to syphilis are usually painless unlike those caused by herpes and chancroid, which are extremely painful. Genital herpes can also be spread through oral sex. This infection is usually spread by people who are not aware of their condition. Genital herpes is usually dormant for some time and break out when the body is under a lot of stress. However, if you are monogamous and have not had unprotected sexual relationships, there is a very small likelihood of your developing syphilis or chancroid. Your sores might have been caused due to a trauma or injury to the skin, skin conditions like eczema, thrush, or the Behcet’s disease. A skin reaction or allergy to a strong drug could also cause vaginal sores and ulcers.

Garlic is one of the best home cures for yeast infections of the vagina. Garlic has natural anti fungal properties which can fight the yeast infection. Placing a garlic clove inserted in the vulva over the night can keep the yeast from growing and offer very good relief. Even better way is to use garlic oil which can be prepared by chopping of 2 cloves of garlic into 100 ml of olive oil. The mixture can be heated and cooled to room temperature before applying on the affected area. You should get instant relief from your itch with this method. Continue to apply on the affected area for a week or so to gain complete relief.

Regards,
