Q: Hey all,
I'm a chiro in IL, and I recently found out a private nursing school has opened up their MSN program to chiros. My question, if I went ahead and did this program, it would open up my scope of practice of what I'd be able to medically do, with my current patients and with potential new ones.
But outside of billing for a 99213 (which I can already do as a chiro), what other procedures and techniques and therapies could I get into, where I could get paid well, or at least add more income to what I am already doing??
Thanks for any and all responses; it will help me a lot with my decision!
Dr. Paul.

A1: Hi Paul:
You need to check with the PA and medical board to see if PA can inject without doc in Illinois, or even have your own practice without doc.
Prolotherapy can be a big billing item.
Best...

A2: Dr. Paul,

Be very careful to check the legal ramifications of what you will be involved in as an NP/DC. It may be much more complicated than you may think from a legal standpoint. It isn't the answer to your all of your problems of limited scope as a DCs some of the proponents are saying. Also, consult good legal advice with appropriate background and experience and not what someone you think knows what they are talking about tells you. You may save yourself a lot of time, energy, and a bundle of money with just a small amount of effort.

A3: Hi Dr. Paul,

You will have to check with someone in your state of IL. The laws vary from state to state.

Best,

Martelle Green, BSN, RN

A4: It is my understanding that Texas Chiropractic College in Pasadena is starting a RNP program specifically for DCs.

While it varies by states for both DCs and RNPs the essential avdantages relate to the possibility of managing prescriptions and injections.

This would also apply to those DCs who go on to become DOs, or MDs, or PAs and vice versa. Unfortunately, when DOs gained the equivalence with MDs to prescribe and inject they tended to become three-fingered practitioners, rather than ten-fingered.

Rather a departure from their heritage.

A5: I'm curious, as a chiropractor myself, what the name of the nursing school is. Thank you.

A6: What is the name of the school, and where is it located?
