I am a 57 year old female, fairly active person, who wiped out on a road bike which looked dangerous to me when I was given it. I fractured my hip and have had three pins put in. I was told it looked like I was probably not a candidate for arterial necrosis, but want to make sure I am doing all the right things. I am in month 4 and a half, and am doing pretty well. My question is, I was told it took a year to recover totally, and wonder what the prognosis is as far as pain meds, which I think I can discontinue within 30 days. My surgeon, a 30 something ex football player, wantd to ween me week 3 after the surgery. I am at about 1 a day 7.5/325 Vicadin and as much as it helps with pain, it also helps me with anxiety. Does it sound reasonable to continue this level, 75% reduction from what I took after the surgery, or should I be totally weened by now. What level of work should I be expected to perform, sitting for periods longer than a half hour bother me still, and I am a landscaper by trade, and know instinctively I cannot do that. Pain has subsided substantially, but I do not tolerate pain well, and don't see why I should have to. Any comments from qualified personel appreciated. I am also reading where 1 out of 4 people over 50 DIE the year after a hip fracture..(of course not contemplating that..just something in the factsheet  )
