Keeping the Weight Off: Set a Warning Zone

Maintaining a healthy weight is an important facet of diabetes management. It's also important not to let your weight yo-yo. Instead, once you've reached your goal weight, monitor it by watching for setbacks.



Set a 2-pound weight buffer zone to allow for occasional weight fluctuations such as after a large meal or if you gain a bit when you're sick and can't exercise, for example. When your weight creeps up by 2 pounds, consider it a yellow traffic signal, meaning you should be more cautious about your food intake and physical activity. If you gain more than 2 pounds, return to the strategies that helped you lose weight in the first place so that the slight weight gain doesn't turn into 10 pounds or more.
