While fruits can contain a significant amount of sugar, they have many other nutritious benefits.

When you're watching your sugar levels, it's tempting to stop eating fruit, but naturally sweet treats can be a healthy part of your diet. Fruits provide carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals, and fiber. Talk to your dietician or doctor about how much fruit you can eat. Try these tips to keep your sugar in a safe range:

Eat fruits raw or cooked, as juice with no sugar added, canned in their own juice, or dried.
Buy smaller pieces of fruit.
Choose pieces of fruit more often than fruit juice. Whole fruit is more filling and has more fiber.
Save high-sugar and high-fat fruit desserts such as peach cobbler or cherry pie for special occasions.
