A1: I doubt Oral chelation will be effective enough for Aluminum and Cadmium, which most likely is fueling the hyperparathyroidism. She needs IV EDTA.

A2: My brother in law was diagnosed with hyperparathyroidism after he was found to have recurrent kidney stones, hypercalcemia and hypertension. His PTH levels were very elevated. His endocrinologist recommended surgical exploration and excision. I treated his successful and wrote the case up in Explore for the Professional. With the extraction of his two root canal teeth, replacement of mercury fillings, neural therapy with Heel and Sanum remedies to the parathyroid areas, oral chelation with Metal Free and some IV Meyers cocktails again with sanums and Heel remedies all of his symptoms abated within a couple of months. He is now disease free for 3 years with all labs normal and blood pressure normal.

I believe that the surgical treatment should be done only when Biological Medicine has failed.

A3: Dear Doc,
Dr. David Brownstein has some qualified info in his book on/ about Iodine. 1-888-647-5616 to order it. There is some compelling data that iodine, in the form of Lugol's solution (iodine, and iodide) can help maintain the correct balance of the three estrogens, as well all other hormones. The info also gives several case histories of patients with similar health imbalances resulting in similar health problems. You will find it a great read with a balanced application for many complaints.

A4: Hi Roy:
Aside from the obvious that she needs to get back into your care and out of the clutches of conventional medicine, check her 25-OH vit D levels. This, as you know can cause a severe secondary hyperparathyroidism even with a (paradoxical) hypercalcemia. I had a patient a few years ago with similar symptoms (she was a chronic back pain patient who rarely saw the sun) who had a vitamin D 25-OH level of 12 ng/dl. She had 15 years of chronic back pain and muscle weakness (For which she underwent 2 unsuccessful back surgeries), both of which are classic symptoms of vitamin D deficiency. I urged her to tell her endocrinologist about her low vitamin D levels and at least give her a trial of vitamin D3 but he insisted that Vit D was "irrelevant" and recommended a parathyroidectomy. She had the surgery (again against my recommendations). Unfortunately, she didn't do well and died within three months post op (still never having tried vitamin D).

Best regards,

Rick Linchitz (Linchitz Medical Wellness)

A5: Dear Roy,
Thus far, the "water program" is "working." I am finding more and more that people are really dehydrated. Go to swansonvitamins.com and buy "willard water." With that, you add 1 tsp. of http://www.realsalt.com and drink 1 oz. of water per 1/2 of pounds of body weight. (meaning if she weighs 200 lbs., then she must consume 100 oz water) People have complaints of all kinds of things and you would not believe how well this works. I tested this out myself, in another manner -- I took 1.5 liters of water in the a.m., and I was having BMs minutes later.

Another idea is http://www.drnatura.com -- this will help with cleansing the body -- in ways I have not seen before. Check it out.

Call me anytime.

A6: I have found that getting a bone density test so that they can know of risk factors for later hip and spine fractures gets their attention. Compliance with protocols is so very important. Thyroid function, metabolic nutritional markers and bone density are highly correlated.
