Oil of Myrtle for treating hypothyroidism??

Q: Has anyone ever used essential oil of Myrtle for treating hypothyroidism by application of the reflexology point at the ball of the foot under the great toe? I had a patient who came in with pre and post treatment salivary panels that showed a marked decrease in TSH improvement in free T4 and T3 and reversal of TPO (from positive to negative). I am running serum thyroid on her at this time.

According to the info I found on line -essential oil of Myrtle has been traditionally used to treat hypothyroidism. This is the first laboratory documentation I have of such. Especially in the presence of previously positive salivary TPO.I just wish I had serum TPO levels pre and post treatment.

A1: I'm finding iodine to be working great for hypothyroid cases. Standard process has prolamine iodine which works great. Dr. Brownstein has been doing alot of work with iodine over the past several years. His web site is http://www.drbrownstein.com I would recommend his book also. I've had very stubborn cases that have responded remarkably with just adding iodine. Sometimes a patient may need to go with as many as 17 a day for a short time, & then most people seem be able to back down & do very well on 1-3 a day.
Good luck Dr. Glen Matejka,D.N,D.C.,D.A.C.B.N,CCN

A2: Dr. Zeiger~

From experience, I am a believer in the healing power of essential oils from plants and would like to learn more about this particular application.

Might you share the URL of the laboratory documentation on using this essential oil? Also, if you know, what was the oil treatment protocol - one drop, each reflex point, how many times a day and for how many weeks before testing showed improvement?

Thanks,
Jackie Burgess, RDH
