Is honey good or bad for type-2 diabetics? I have heard both.

As far as carbohydrates are concerned, honey isn't any better or worse for you than sugar, whether or not you have type 2 diabetes. Honey contains fructose, glucose and water plus other sugars as well as trace enzymes, minerals, amino acids and a wide range of B vitamins. The amount of these micronutrients varies depending on where the honey comes from. In general, darker honeys contain more vitamins than lighter ones and also provide more trace minerals such as calcium, magnesium and potassium.

If you consult the glycemic index, you'll see that honey and table sugar rank very close together, honey at 62 and sugar at 64. As I'm sure you know, the glycemic index measures how easily the body turns carbohydrates into glucose, provoking an insulin response. (You can view this list at http://www.mendosa.com/gilists.htm.) A newer and more practical concept is glycemic load, a measure of how many grams of carbohydrate a normal serving contains. For example, carrots rank high on the glycemic index, but the amount of carbohydrates you would actually consume in a normal serving is pretty low, only 6.2 grams. To calculate glycemic load you multiply a food's ranking on the glycemic index by the actual amount of carbohydrates ingested.

Although it offers no nutritional advantage over sugar, honey does have some useful and unique properties. It promotes wound healing, for example. Raw honey is an excellent first aid measure for burns, even very severe ones. (I wouldn't advise treating a serious wound with the honey you get at the supermarket or health food store. You need a medicinal honey for that, and someone with expertise to treat you.)

Individuals with diabetes should consume honey in moderation, if at all. If you are not diabetic and like honey, I recommend raw varieties, which I much prefer for their flavors and textures.

I am eating honey regularly and It is too much healthy. Mostly I am using It with combination with Cinnamon Combo. Here I am describing 10 Miraculous Health Benefits of Honey and Cinnamon Combo.

1 For Curing Arthritis

A paste should be made from one part honey and two parts of luke warm water added with a small teaspoon of cinnamon powder. This paste should be massaged on the itching part of the body and the pain should recede within fifteen minutes in most cases.

2 Hair Loss

For hair loss or baldness, patients may apply a paste made out of hot olive oil, one tablespoon of honey, one teaspoon of cinnamon powder. This should be applied before they take bath and keep it for approximately 15 minutes. After that they can wash it off with luke warm water.

3 Toothache
A paste made of one teaspoon of cinnamon powder and five teaspoons of honey when applied on the aching tooth (may be done 3 times a day) reduces the pain within a matter of 15 minutes.

4
Reducing Cholesterol

Take two tablespoons of honey, three teaspoons of cinnamon powder and mix in 16 ounces of tea, when given to a cholesterol patient, reduces the level of cholesterol in the blood by 10% within 2 hours. Pure honey is also sometimes used with food to check cholesterol.

For those who are suffering from common or severe colds, they should take one tablespoon of luke warm honey with 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon powder daily for 3 days. This process will cure most chronic cough, cold and clear the sinuses.

6 Curing Infertility
Various ancient medical streams like Ayurveda and Yunani have been using honey for years in medicine to strengthen the semen of men. Two tablespoons of honey before they go to sleep is what is prescribed by many experienced practitioners. This combination will work wonders for women as well. In China, Japan and other Asian countries, if the women who do not conceive, and or if their uterus is weak, then they have been prescribed cinnamon powder. Women who cannot conceive may take a pinch of cinnamon powder in half a teaspoon of honey, and apply it on the gums frequently throughout the day, so that it slowly mixes with the saliva and enters the body.

7 Stomach Upset
Honey taken with cinnamon powder also helps in curing stomach ache. For people who are suffering from gas problems, honey should be taken with cinnamon powder in equal quantities, relieves gas and pain in the stomach.
8 Immune System

The daily intake of honey and cinnamon powder strengthens the immune system and protects the body from bacterial and viral attacks. Researchers have found that honey has various vitamins and iron in large amounts and its use strengthens the white blood corpuscles.
9 Longevity

Ancient cultures used Tea made with honey and cinnamon powder for longevity. 4 spoons of honey, 1 spoon of cinnamon powder and 3 cups of water are boiled to make this tea. The prescribed amount is to drink 1/4 cup, 3 times a day. It keeps the skin fresh and soft and slows down old age.

10 Weight Loss

Drink honey and cinnamon powder boiled in one cup water first thing in the morning (empty stomach). If taken regularly it reduces the weight of even the most obese person. Also drinking of this mixture regularly does not allow the fat to accumulate in the body, even though the person may eat a high calorie diet. Weight loss can be due to different reasons. Some people do over dieting to reduce weight which affects their body’s immune system. Losing weight is fine but that should not be at the expense of harsh dieting and skipping your vitamins and minerals.

hi there...

1 Teaspoon of honey will do you no harm but have to much and the effect is the same as any sugar. If a diabetic it could cause your blood sugar level to rise above safe levels and of course it can put on weight. Honey though has many healthy properties that are only recently becoming apparent.

Honey is one of the best and valuable gift by God to human-beings if is completely pure and sure. There are lot of advantages behind it like if you take one spoons honey, lemon with one glass water in the early morning with nil by mouth, it can be remarkably reduced your weight. If you apply with any ayurveda power, its intensity would be just more than before. It improves your immunity power.

Its just wonderful. I do not consume honey at all but I knew from other sources that honey is good for health. I've read few articles on the health benefits of honey but never came across a question-answer forum. After reading all the replies now I am very much sure that honey is one of the most valuable nature's product so, I am going to use honey from today itself. Thank you everyone.

A little update from my side. As stated in the above post I have started consuming honey and I take one spoon everyday in the morning. Its been 4 days when I have started to consume and I can see the effect. I feel that my digestive system has become strong and so I feel more active. Currently I am consuming only 1 spoon(small). Should i increase the quantity or stick with only one ?
